When last August began to show that Fall would be coming the urge to travel began to stir. The Airstream was happy as we had her serviced and cleaned. The happiness she exuded was palbable. She had new shoes and a great new clean. All the linens were cleaned packed and a place to see.
With all the thoughts all year long about what we should put into her refrigerator and what was needed to make her even more simply luxurious we did not think it would be sooo long before I wrote again.
Marble Quarry was our destination. Columbia California has always been in our backyard but we had never visited her. It has been a dry year and the feeling of cold crisp air was hopeful. Our reservations made and our peeps in line to meet, eat and explore made us giddy. We planned a wonderful menu. Cocktails, lemon drops with Citadel gin would begin our evening.
Our drive was long, about 4 hours! The area was a little different than our usuaal drive to Yosemite but the miles and miles of rangeland, rolling hills, cattle lowing and little towns was what we needed.
We arrived in Sonora lat afternoon, rapidly set-up and got our entree heating on our stove. The table set outside, air warm our friends all checked in set the tone for our weekend.
We served stuffed dates with goat cheese and bacon, lima bean dip and toasted pita bread. All began to relax and settle in. The braised slow cooked ribs with french bread, red wine and chatter around the fire helped make our retreat relaxing. We had peanut butter and jelly cookies with port and then took a walk through the woods to the little historic town of Columbia. We had a treat waiting for us. The local children had had a Pumpkin carving contest and we got to see the glowing pumpkin heads in the autumn night.
Wow what a great memory, but we have been watching other silver dreams going down the road makes me wish we were out there with them. We will and start again.
What we did do that stay was meet another Airstreamer who just pulled their 30 ft International from Connecticut to California and on their way to Washington stay to let her rest the winter while they flew home! How fun to see the many ways people enjoy their escape hatch!
